To help prospective students research their options for pursuing a master’s degree in communication, we interviewed graduates from different programs across the country. This page features interviews with three alumni of the University of Colorado Denver’s Master of Arts in Communication. We asked CU Denver graduates Emmie Madison, Claire Shannon, and Erin Sullivan a range of questions related to earning their degree, including how the MA program is structured, their experience completing their capstone portfolio, and what advice they had for future students.

CU Denver’s Master of Arts in Communication is a generalist program with a strong focus on areas such as rhetorical studies, media studies, health communication, and strategic communication. For an inside look at the program from actual graduates, check out the interviews below.

Alumni Interviews

Interview with Claire Shannon - 2018 Graduate "I chose the program at the University of Colorado Denver mostly due to the teaching and research opportunities that would be available to me in the program and the outstanding faculty that I would have the chance to work with."
Interview with Emmie Madison - 2018 Graduate "Between the beautiful campus located in downtown Denver, the small course sizes with individualized attention, and the knowledgeable and experience faculty, CU Denver is a great option for those looking to build their career outside of academia or as a stop along the way in their ultimate PhD goals."
Interview with Erin Sullivan - 2017 Graduate "I didn’t want to be pigeon-holed into one specific job title so I chose a communication degree, as I thought it would provide me with the most opportunities post-graduation. The classes I took throughout my program were pivotal in shaping the path that led me to my current career today."
