Southeastern Louisiana University offers an online Master of Arts (M.A.) in Strategic Communication through the Department of Communication and Media Studies. The degree program can be completed entirely online and is designed for working professionals seeking to advance in their current roles or pursue a new career in communication. Specifically, this program is designed to expand and advance students’ multimedia development skills, their knowledge of digital media data analytics, and their ability to use cutting-edge communication tools and systems to communicate effectively for a wide variety of organizations.

Note: The online M.A. in Strategic Communication replaces Southeastern Louisiana University’s campus-based M.A. in Organizational Communication program.

The program uses exclusively asynchronous online instruction, which means students can review course materials and complete assignments on their own schedules. The MA in Strategic Communication program offers rolling admission in the fall, spring, and summer terms, and the program can be completed in 12 to 15 months. The curriculum requires 36 credit-hours, or the completion of 12 three-credit courses.

The curriculum includes courses that hone students’ understanding of and ability to use new media technologies and methods in strategic communication. Students in the M.A. program complete four core courses in Strategic Communication Campaigns, Digital Communication, Content Creation for Strategic Communication, and Quantitative Measurements for Strategic Communication. From there, students complete seven electives from a wide range of courses in topics such as integrated marketing communication, social media communication, digital data analytics, communication training and development, international communication and media, diversity and culture in organizational communication, leadership communication, strategic non-profit communication, visual design, public relations, crisis communication, media management, and more.

Finally, students are required to take a strategic communication capstone course, wherein they apply the concepts and skills they have learned in their classes to a concrete strategic communication deliverable.

Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
